Forgot to put this up. Me on Compost's new one over at Earplug.

Artist: Various
Album: Compost 200: Freshly Composted
Label: Compost
Release: December 2005

Though the imprint has been tagged as a "future-jazz" label, Germany's Compost shouldn't only be judged by that lukewarm standard. To the contrary, Compost has 11 years of leftfield dance music under its belt, and this compilation showcases some of the brightest of its recent output — some of which has been previously available only on vinyl. Fellow travelers like Laurent Garnier, Maurice Fulton, and Justus Koehncke make surprise appearances remixing a range of label artists, and the album's sounds span from the slow, stand-up bass-driven jazz on Alif Tree's "I Feel Blue" to tight, crisp, broken beats of Eddy Meets Yannah's "Shamed (Domu Remix)." Henrik Schwarz steals the spotlight, however, with his remix of Wei Chi's "Faces and Places" — a dubby, Basic Channel-inspired cut with lively percussion and subdued jazz piano chords that perhaps best illustrates exactly how broad the reach and vision of the label truly is.
